The App Store uses a custom age rating system for their apps. Below, you can read what each of the ratings can be compared to.

This can be useful when downloading apps and games for your kids:

4+: Equivalent to Rated E video game, Rated G movie

9+: Equivalent to Rated E+10 video game, Rated PG movie

12+: Equivalent to Rated T video game, Rated PG-13 movie.

17+: Equivalent to Rated M video game, Rated R movie.
