Today I want to talk about Plantain…

And no…

I don’t mean that funny banana-looking fruit at the grocery store.

I’m talking about one of the common ‘weeds’ that probably grows in your very own yard. Plantain is a genus of plants scientifically known as Plantago. The common plantain is Plantago major. This medicinal and edible plant originates in Europe and is said to have been brought over to America by early settlers, as is the case with many more of our wild edible plants – such as dandelion. It’s medicinal use goes back for centuries.clip_image002_053

Topically, Plantain is useful for insect bites, stings, cuts, rashes and even snake bites; along with many other skin ailments. It’s anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant and antibiotic properties make it perfect for a wound healing medicine.
